Vision Partners developed a camera system using 4 Area scan cameras with which the following measurements could be made with sufficient resolution:
- Surface inspection for gray value/color and condition
- Width monitoring of the adhesive edge
- Presence check dividing line between adhesive edge and other surface
Due to the large variety of products, Vision Partners ensured that a single teach-in button was used at the start of production to teach the surface on which production could continue immediately. Because the type and position of the adhesive edge could also vary, this could easily be indicated with a selection switch.
This has kept the operation simple so that all production employees have easily been able to learn within 15 sec. to learn a new product and select the correct paste edge.
Before and during production, there is also real-time opportunity to set tolerances on contrast difference and size of deviation via a few push buttons. This has made operation simple, while still allowing the operators to directly influence the quality standard for the product being produced at that time, which was an express wish of the customer.


The image below shows the operator main screen. The 4 camera images are visible at the operator's location. When one of the cameras detects an error in the surface, an alarm is raised and the image is frozen for the operator. The operator then determines in line whether this product may continue or be rejected. In case of rejection, the roll with the surface defects is removed from production by the operator at the end of the line.
Thanks to this inspection, operators have continuous visibility of production and surface conditions and are alerted in case of emergencies.
This provided an effective solution which increased the quality of the products and led to greater customer satisfaction.
