Thermal image inspection

Thermography and machine vision bundled into one industrial system. Thermal imaging technology reveals features that are not normally visible.
Thermal image inspection
Description solution

The power of thermography and machine vision bundled into one industrial system.

Based on temperature differences, the thermal image is analyzed and can be used for many measurement & automation applications in various fields of application. Through thermal imaging, properties of the product become visible that are not visible to a normal camera.

Thermal imaging applications in the food chain

Robotization of the packing line leads to traditional packer tasks such as label checking and seal inspection being taken over by in-line inspection systems.

Using an industrial thermal imaging camera, each sealed package 100% is checked in-line for thermal abnormalities of the seal seam. Also, seal inspection provides the option to perform additional inspection tasks with visual cameras.

Packaging lines

  • Technology suitable for packaging lines with high diversity of different larger packages

    • Different colors of plastic e.g. black/blue/transparent

    • Different printing on packaging

  • Optional use of visual cameras to check for cracks during the packaging process.

  • Non-contact inspection without touching packaging

Thermal imaging applications in the process industry

In the automotive industry, many plastics are used for components such as dashboards. These components are joined by infrared (IR) welding.  By monitoring the IR welding process with thermal imaging, manufacturers can catch joints that fall outside the upper or lower temperature control limits.

An infrared camera placed at a fixed position along the production line can repeatably and accurately illustrate the thermal patterns and gradients needed to identify faults in IR welding. A thermal image may also show an incomplete shape, a non-uniform temperature profile or varying gradients. Temperature data collected by a thermal camera can help quality control engineers find and correct production line errors, preventing the export of defective products.
