Vion's Groenlo slaughterhouse recently began using innovative 3D camera technology to accurately measure the tail length of pigs. This new development, supplied and implemented by Vision Partners, enables Vion to monitor animal welfare in an objective and scalable way.
"Thanks to this technology, we get a sharper picture of the pigs' tail length, which is an important welfare indicator," said Ronald Klont,Director of R&D at Vion of Vion.
Tail length is a valuable indicator of how animals are treated on the farm. Shorter tails often indicate biting or docking, while longer tails may indicate better living conditions. Vision Partners' 3D cameras now automatically and accurately map this.
"This collaboration with Vision Partners allows us to better understand animal welfare and feed this information back to our supply chain partners," says Ronald. "This not only helps with internal quality control, but also contributes to more transparency towards our customers."
The technology is part of a broader digitization effort within Vion and underscores the role of Vision Partners as a specialist in advanced sensor technology for the food industry.
