Pallet completeness inspection with 2D data code checking for automated warehouse

Our client is a world leader in modular flooring, providing an integrated collection of carpet tiles and resilient flooring. In a new warehouse, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) do the work. They transport the pallets to the docks where the trucks are loaded. Crucially, the pallet has the right boxes stacked with them. Before the pallet goes into the truck, a check is made that the right boxes are on the pallet.

Description case

Vision Partners has developed a customer-specific machine vision inspection system that checks each side of the pallet to ensure that the correct boxes are stacked with the correct 2D data codes.

Inspection for presence of 2D data code

With a high-resolution camera, images are taken after which the Machine Vision software takes all present 2D data code reads, processes and transmits to the upstream system. A sophisticated lighting system ensures that any shadowing of the stacked boxes does not affect 2D code inspection. Communication with the parent system is done with the OPC-UA standard. For the databases, we use MySQL technology.

The image above shows the operator main screen showing the pallet image and the read data matrix codes.

The inspection results are displayed on a screen and the results of each pallet are logged for reporting and following up on any customer inquiries.

Thanks to this inspection, outbound inspection is standardized and delivered to the customer with consistent quality.
