Operators are already able to accurately sieve the top of this steel sheet during production, however, they wanted to do the same for the underside.
However, the available space was too small to place standard area cameras, so Vision Partners came up with a solution by means of a Line Scan camera which builds up a complete picture by means of image lines.
To realize this, it is only necessary to create a small slot of about 1 cm through which the line scan camera "looks" from below to generate an image. Usually this is possible at the transition between two conveyor belts, which are usually several provided within a production line.
Vision Partners created a setup with a line scan camera and LED line lighting so that the operator can now see an up-to-date picture of the underside of the tinning line on the monitor. If there are any deviations, this can be quickly responded to by slowing down or stopping the line.
Erroneous additions which hereby show deviations in the surface of the steel strip are thus quickly seen and also scratches and/or dents on the underside are now noticed by the operator. This now enables a quick response, reducing deliveries with faulty surfaces and minimizing waste of faulty material.
The camera system was initially supplied as an aid to the operator through the visualization of the underside. However, the recording system is already prepared and easily upgraded through additional vision software to a fully automatic inspection.
"We are very happy with this solution because now we produce less waste and can guarantee our customer a good product."
