Sealable cap and label inspection for industrial drums

Inspecting the placement and presence of sealable caps and labels on industrial drums is an essential task in the quality control of the packaging process. This not only ensures the safety and integrity of the contents, but also confirms that the correct information is present on each drum, which is essential for traceability, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction.

Description case

With a machine vision setup consisting of multiple cameras, common sealable cap closure errors can be detected. Such as:

  • Cap must be screwed straight onto the twist-off hole
  • Cap must be tightened properly
  • Cap and the sealing edge must be firmly together

Vision Partners developed a turn-key solution consisting of 4 industrial machine vision cameras to validate cap placement and the presence of the correct labels.

Below are some possible cap placement errors that are detected.

In addition, it checks that the label is neatly applied to the barrel. Optionally, the batch code on the label can be read and checked using OCR. The cameras and control box are made of stainless steel.

For our deliveries to the pharmaceutical industry, robust inspection of the placement of the sealable cap on the packages is a requirement. Together with Vision Partners, we have efficiently implemented this inspection
