One of the challenges was on a high-speed BIMEC cutting line to subject the labels to a final print check before they are packaged and go onto the pallet. This print check had to include checking that the correct barcode was printed on the labels and that it is legible but also that the correct colors are in the label and that there were no pressure shifts.
As new labels are produced daily in this process, no reference could be retrieved from a database but the reference had to be able to be created on the spot at the start of cutting the rolls and preferably automatically.
Vision Partners has developed the entire software whereby the first meters of the roll are used as a reference for further checking of the roll. The operator does have the task of validating the images made during this learning session once.
Once these reference photos are present, production can continue and the following labels are immediately checked very precisely. Due to this setup, even minor printing errors or color deviations can be quickly detected.
Label control on the BIMEC at very high speed
Because the speed of the BIMEC machine is very high and the inspection must be performed on very small details, the inspection is performed every X number of triggers. Since printing errors are repetitive, this was an option in this case which also allowed the cost for the overall setup to be limited.
Application software where real-time recorded image is also displayed alongside the taught image including measured values for color, sharpness and barcode control.
Thanks to this Vision Partners product print inspection, a robust outbound quality inspection is operational on the BIMEC slitter rewinder that matches the top sports mentality that pursues perfection.
7 cameras side-by-side for full-width label control with maximum resolution
"This accurate vision inspection has proven itself for us multiple times and we are thinking about buying a second system next year for our other production machine."
