Because the rollers themselves are dark in color and the Calcium to be visualized and measured is white, there was already a good contrast to have the amount of Calcium on the belt measured directly by new digital cameras as well. As a result, Vision Partners has proposed an industrial Vision PC to which 6 Ethernet cameras can be connected simultaneously. Via the direct dvi output of the PC, we could also show all 6 camera images real-time on monitor.
The operators receive an alarm on the screen if the filling on the rollers is too large whereby they can also set whether they want to control the feed control valves manually or automatically. The degree of filling is hereby automatically determined by the cameras on the basis of the width of the filling on the roller whereby this is transmitted to the overhead system via the Ethernet protocol.
A total of 18 cameras were supplied in the project for monitoring and measuring 18 rollers displayed on 3 large TV screens in control room. The introduction of these digital cameras has greatly improved the display and the automatic control helps the operator maximally to control the production.
"Replacing the analog cameras with new digital cameras has greatly improved the display and we can still keep a good overview of production with lower staffing levels."
